Will attendance be taken each day?
Uvalde CISD abides by Texas state law regarding attendance. Whether a school is virtual or “brick and mortar,” consistent attendance and participation are imperative for any student to succeed. We will follow these guidelines:
1. Attendance will be taken daily.2. Students are expected to attend their synchronous class sessions online and demonstrate daily
progress in assigned activities for all classes.
3. A student must “engage” in each class each day in order to be counted present.
Student engagement is defined as follows:
- During synchronous classes, students demonstrate engagement by listening to the instructions, participate in class discussions, turn their cameras on, and complete tasks as assigned.
- During asynchronous times, students will demonstrate engagement by completing assignments and demonstrating progress through the online learning software. Student asynchronous time can take place anytime between 7 am and 11:59 pm
Engagement will be tracked via one of the following:
- Teacher interactions: Students will engage in synchronous learning with teachers on a schedule defined by the teacher. Additionally, students may be requested to check-in with their teacher during scheduled tutorials or small group discussions.
- Daily progress in the LMS: Students will have at minimum a daily assignment or question related to the day’s learning objective for every subject which will be the equivalent of 240 minutes of instructional time. It is not expected that students complete exactly 240 minutes of instructional time a day. This time will fluctuate depending on the difficulty level of the online assignments.

What if my child has to be absent?
Following an absence, a parent should submit an absence note* to the Virtual Learning principal or registrar with the following details:
a. Student first and last name
b. Grade
c. ID number (if known)
d. Date of absence
e. Reason for absence
*Notes can be emailed to the campus attendance email address
Viewing Attendance
You may view your student’s attendance at any time through Family Access. Just login and select the attendance tab.
Absence Notifications
You will receive an absence notification (call/email)when your student has been marked absent. This is a friendly reminder that you need to submit a note to the attendance office. All students with unexcused absences for ten or more days or parts of days in a six-month period will be removed from Virtual Learning back to in-person at their home campus.
90% Rule
To receive credit or a final grade in a class, students must attend at least 90% of the days the class is offered.

What might a typical day look like?
A student will be offered an equivalent of four hours (240 instructional minutes) of daily instruction. The instructional time will provide students access to the equivalent of instructional minutes that a student would be engaged in over a normal school year as documented in the publicly posted asynchronous plan. The number of instructional minutes students have access to will match or exceed 240 instructional minutes of daily minimums across all subjects for Kindergarten through 12th grade
A typical day will include activities such as:
• Daily progress checks in the learning management system (LMS) that confirm students are accessing instruction;
• Daily "office hours" or teacher-student conferences that confirm students are learning content;
• Completion/turn-in of assignments from student to teacher via designated programs and the student's LMS;
• Small group opportunities for reteaching and enriching learning;
• Weekly student goal-setting and data tracking;
• Formative and summative assessments
• 1-1 time with Administrator, Counselor, or Student Success Advisor (used to provide personalized support)

What are "Office Hours"?
"Office hours" are synchronous sessions that provide opportunities for teacher and student to conference and address progress. These sessions may also be used for teacher-led, small group work or tutoring. These times will be communicated with parents to ensure students are available for these interactions. Some office hours will be mandatory each week to account for time needed for instructional minutes.
