Melissa Alejandro, LMSW

WELCOME and thank you for visiting my Uvalde CISD page! My name is Melissa Alejandro and I am the Family and Student Support Counselor (FSSC) for Batesville Elementary, Dalton Elementary, and Crossroads Academy High School. I am excited to be in the district's educational setting once again, but this time not as a student. Instead, working for our Uvalde CISD students and families. My goal, as FSSC, is to ensure your student's emotional and social well-being so that, together, we can secure a positive educational outcome. That positive educational outcome being, GRADUATION!!

So, back to safeguarding the social and emotional well-being of your student. One might ask, "What does that look like?". Sometimes we find ourselves having a hard time coping in a new or difficult situation, which is common. Similarly, your student may be undergoing a developmental milestone and in need of additional support. I am here to provide a listening ear, while also teaching social/emotional skills, new coping techniques, or modifying current ones, to assist in avoiding a disruption to your student's day-to-day activities. Another way I'd like to be supportive is by introducing local and state resources to you. From time to time, we may also find ourselves experiencing a situation where our household could benefit from an outside resource. I would like to introduce organizations that could eliminate any burdens. I have been proficient in identifying and contacting local and state resources since 2002, so please put me to work!

Before learning about all of our resources, I was hard at work studying for my Bachelor's in Social Work at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK). Shortly upon graduating from TAMUK, my high school sweetheart and I married and added two children to our family. During that busy time with family, I still had an eagerness to keep learning so I returned to college and earned my Master of Social Work from the University of Houston. Since graduating, I have worked in many capacities while in Houston and locally. My favorite thus far, however, has been working for U. Now that you have learned about me, I eagerly await for you to contact me so I can get to know you!
