Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Janice Mireles

My name is Janice E. Mireles. I graduated from Uvalde High School in 1984 and decided to be a stay-at-home mom to raise my family. In 1992, I realized that as a single parent, I would need to go back to school in order to better provide for my 3 children. I enrolled at SWTJC that same year and continued at Sul Ross Rio Grande College, graduating in 2000. My career began in the fall of 2001 when I was hired to teach English at Gabriel Tafolla Academy and I stayed with GTA until May of 2010. I was then hired at Uvalde High School in 2011 and have been with the district ever since. I teach English 2 including Pre-AP and Early College High School students.  I have had the privilege of being the English Department Chair for the last 5 years and I was also selected by my peers as Teacher of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year.
I believe that all students have the ability to learn. It is a teacher's obligation to build a rapport with his or her students to find what works best for them. I love what I do and cannot see myself doing anything else. My free time is spent reading, visiting my family, and dancing.
