Mrs. Karen McCarty
I am proud to say that this will be my 10th year of teaching in Uvalde! Here is a little bit about my teaching and performing experience. I began my musical career learning piano at 8 years old. At 13 I was a church organist and choir director. In high school I was a students in the College Preparatory Department at the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. I have a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from Eastern Washington University and a Master of Music in voice and vocal pedagogy from Arizona State University. I also studied private voice at San Francisco Consrvatory. I attended the Bay Area Summer Opera Institute, Docorah Opera Theater and Monroe Kanouse Opera Workshop. I am a founding member of the Livermore Valley Opera Company. Since moving to Texas in 2000 I have taught choir in Austin, San Antonio and Uvlade and earned my teaching certification at Texas State. In 2010 I completed course work in ESL through UT Austin. In addition I teach Music Appreciation at Northwest Vista Comunity College and Soutwest Texas Junior College. It is a privilege to be a member of the high school faculty and to be able to teach these talented students.
