Uvalde CISD provides special education services for students with disabilities, ages 3-21, who have a need for specially designed instruction. We also provide services for students, ages 0-2, who meet eligibility for auditory or visual impairments. In addition to special education campus teachers and instructional assistants, our staff also includes diagnosticians, speech pathologists and pathology assistants, licensed specialists in school psychology, deaf education teachers as well as other related service specialists who are committed in meeting the unique and individual needs of our students.

What is Child Find?
Child Find is a process designed to identify, locate, and evaluate individuals (birth through 21 years of age) with disabilities who may need special education services. For more information, click on the links below.

Who can begin the Child Find Process?
Anyone: A parent, doctor, teacher, relative or friend can call their child's home campus or the UCISD Special Education Department at 591-4928.
Why should we refer?
Early identification and intervention can prevent failure and frustration.
What happens after the individual is referred?
The parent or legal guardian will be contacted by the school district and together will decide if an assessment is needed.
Who may qualify for special education services?
UCISD offers services to students who have the following disabilities according to federal and state criteria:- Specific Learning Disability
- Speech Impairment
- Emotional Disturbance
- Autism
- Other Health Impairment
- Deaf-Blindness
- Auditory Impairment
- Visual Impairment
- Multiple Disabilites
- Orthopedic Impairment
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Intellectual Disability
Each individual's need(s) will be addressed on an individualized basis by a team consisting of: parent(s) or guardian, assessment personnel, teacher(s), student and a campus administrator.
How much do services cost?
All services are provided at NO cost to the individual or parents.
