Dear Flores Elementary Parents/Guardians,
I hope that you and your family are enjoying your summer break. As the newly assigned principal of Flores Elementary for the 2018 – 2019 school year, I would like to take this time to introduce myself to you. My name is Michelle I. Rodriguez and I am honored to serve the incoming 5th & 6th grade students and parents at Flores Elementary. I come to the position at Flores with nine years of teaching experience and 18 years of administrative experience, having worked six years as the vice-principal for Lincoln Middle School with McAllen I.S.D., ten years as campus principal of Leo Marcell Elementary with Mission CISD, one year as La Pryor Elementary principal and last year I was the principal at Morales Junior High with Uvalde CISD.
I have had the good fortune of working with campus staff, students, parents and the community to re-establish academic success at previous campuses in McAllen, Mission and La Pryor. My philosophy is that teamwork, open communication, data analysis and a genuine commitment to our students makes a successful school.
As the new principal of Flores Elementary, I am excited to introduce Ms. Frances Martinez and Mr. Roman Gabriel Salazar, who join our administrative team. Serving as assistant principals, Ms. Martinez just completed her first year with UCISD as the assistant principal at Benson Elementary. Mr. Gabriel Salazar is a graduate of UHS and has served UCISD as both a teacher and administrator for the past 18 years. Most recently he served as the assistant principal at MJH last year.
Working very closely with the Flores Elementary campus administrators will be school counselor, Ms. Jessica Tijerina. A former 5th grade teacher at Robb Elementary, Ms. Tijerina was the school counselor at MJH last school year. She too is moving to work at our new 5th & 6th grade Flores Elementary campus.
Flores Elementary will also have familiar faces assisting students and parents in the front office with Ms. Veronica Perez as the campus administrative secretary and Ms. Paula Roque as our PEIMS/attendance clerk, both ladies are moving from Benson to the new campus. Joining them in the office will be Ms. Leticia Munoz, as our At-Risk Intervention clerk and our Parental Liaison will be Ms. Rebeca Cantu.
The new administrative and office team is busy working to prepare for a successful school year at Flores Elementary. As you know, 5th grade Benson teachers are transitioning to join the 6th grade teachers at Flores Elementary. We are very excited to be able to create a more traditional elementary campus at this historic school setting on Getty Street!
