For the 1st time Uvalde CISD has a  Region 20 Teacher of the Year. The 2017 Region 20 Secondary Teacher of the Year is Master Chief Cal Lambert, Uvalde High School Senior Naval Science Instructor.

Master Chief Cal Lambert will now move to the next level of competition and will vie to be one of six finalists for Texas Teacher of the Year, an annual competition organized by the
Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). The Elementary Texas Teacher of the Year and the Secondary Texas Teacher of the Year will be announced in October.

Master Chief  was honored in May as the recipient as the Trinity in Excellence winner. He has been in the district since 1999 after retiring from a career in the military.

"I received a lot of awards in my 26 years in the Navy and two of those from the Commander in Chief at the time.  I endured countless months of family separation, combat, extremely long hours and weeks for those awards, but I can tell you that none of those awards are more personally meaningful to me than this.  All I had to do for this is show up and do what I love best, be with my NJROTC students.  No family separation, no combat, no cold watches on the bridge in the middle of the Atlantic and I get to go home every night.  So, I'm honored and thankful to be a part of this district and this high school, said Master Chief Lambert"

Since 1969, the Texas Teacher of the Year Program has honored excellence in classroom education and provided a forum to showcase many outstanding educators whose efforts and examples have inspired their students, colleagues, and communities they service. The Texas Teacher of the Year designation is the highest honor that the State of Texas can bestow upon a teacher.

Facilitated by TASA, the Texas Teacher of the Year Program annually recognizes and rewards teachers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching.
Education Service Center Region 20 includes more than 50 counties in San Antonio and surrounding areas including Uvalde C.I.S.D.
