About UCISDUCISD consists of 1,093 square miles in Uvalde, Real, and Zavala counties. Located in the city of Uvalde are the three secondary campuses: Uvalde High School , Uvalde Junior High School , and Excel Academy . There are six elementary campuses. The Pre-K - 6th school in Batesville, 20 miles south of Uvalde, is located in Zavala County. Located 82 miles west of San Antonio , Uvalde's economy is based on agriculture and minerals production. The area is served by Southwest Texas Junior College , Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College , and Texas A&M Research and Extension Center . The first school in Uvalde was developed about 1856, when the city of Uvalde was founded. Uvalde High School held its first graduation in 1891. In 2004-05, 284 students graduated from Uvalde High School and 48 students graduated from Excel Academy . The Batesville School opened in 1884. The students now attend school in Batesville through the eighth grade. The Batesville High School Students have attended Uvalde High School since 1949, Batesville officially consolidated with Uvalde in 1973. UCISD employed a total 791 individuals for the 2006-2007 school year, including 388 teachers, 79 support staff, 28 administrative officers, 100 educational aides, 90 paraprofessionals and 131 auxiliary personnel. The district salary schedule: for bachelor's degree ranges from $32,800 to $51,998, a master's degree from $33, 800 to $52,998, doctor's degree from $34,300 to $53, 498. All UCISD schools are accredited by the Texas Education Agency. Working within the structure of Effective Schools, emphasis is placed on appropriate instruction for all students.
